Requires Organization - Export Databases- Add/Edit Permissions

Users in a role that has the appropriate permissions (for example, as an Organization Administrator) can add one or more MS SQL database entries or edit an existing database entry.

Note: Although you can make several databases available to an Organization, a the Project can have only one active database.

Add or Edit Export Database Options

To establish an Export Database or edit an existing Export database entry, specify the following:

! " # $ % & * + . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ { | } ~ “ ”

  • DescriptionClosed Provides a helpful description of an item. A description can have up to 255 characters. (optional) — Specify a description that helps identify the database connection.
  • Type — The type is fixed at MS SQL.
  • IP (required) — Specify the IP address or fully qualified (or DNS-resolvable) hostname of the target database.
  • Port (optional) — Specify the well-known port for the MS SQL database type (1433), or specify another port that is appropriate based on the configuration of the database.
  • Database Name (required) — Specify the actual database name.
  • Username (required) — Specify the username that the system will use to authenticate the database connection.
  • Password (required) — Specify the password needed to authenticate the database connection.

The remaining options manage the configuration process, as follows:

  • Validate — After you supply the IP address, port, actual database name, and authentication information, you can click this button to verify the connection to the database. Success is confirmed or specific failures are reported to you. A failure to validate the connectivity should be investigated before Export, but does not prevent the database entry from being created.
  • OK — As long as you have supplied information in all required fields (including the name Digital Reef uses to identify the database), you can click this button to commit the configuration of the database.
  • Cancel — Cancels the operation at any time during configuration.

Note: When you select a database entry and click Edit, you see the current values for the database (with the exception of the password, which is represented by asterisks). Fields that you can edit are active; fields unavailable for edit are grayed out. You cannot edit the Name field, for example.

Usage Notes

  • Exporting to a database does not preclude the export of files and other manifests to an export location; it is an additional type of manifest export.
  • If a database connection fails during Export, the entire Export will fail. The Export will remain in a Staged state, and when the error has been resolved, you can click the Export button to perform the Export.
  • Digital Reef uses a single-table schema for exporting an export stream to MS SQL.
