Users in a role with the appropriate permissions can load settings from a template.

When you are working with templates at a given level (Project or Organization), you may want to load the settings associated with a particular template and put them into effect at the appropriate level. For example, if you are viewing a particular type of Project Setting, you might want to load settings from an available custom template, or from the Default template that is available for most types of templates at the Organization level.

Many settings support loading from an Organization-level template, but two settings, Load File Import and Export Fields, also support loading from a Project-level template.

As of 5.2.5.x, this operation, when performed for Index Settings or Billing Reports, will require a match in parsing library versions, and you will see an error, The template operation cannot be performed due to a mismatch in parsing library versions between the project and the selected template if you try to load template information that does not match the parsing library version of your current Settings or template. For example, you can only load existing V1 template information into V1 Project Index Settings or load V2 template information into V2 Project Index Settings.

Selecting a Template

When you are logged into eDiscovery and have permissions to view the Project Settings or Organization Settings, you can use the Load from Template option for a given template to select the template from which you want to load settings.

For a template at the Project level, the Load from Template dialog provides the choice of the following:

  • Project Templates — For Export Fields or Load File Import, lists the Project-level templates that are available for the Load from Template operation. You must have Add/Edit permissions for the Project-level Setting to use the Load from Template option to load settings from a selected Organization template, and you must have View permissions for that Organization Setting to list the Organization templates on the Organization Templates tab.
  • Organization Templates (current Organization only at the Org level) — As long as you have the appropriate permissions, you can see a list of Organization templates available based on the type of template for which you want to load settings. The list of templates is for your Organization only. (You cannot see templates owned by other Organizations.) The default Organization template is identified for you.
  • System Templates — If you are a System User in a System role with at least View permissions for the type of System Template, you can see and select from a list of the System-level Templates available to load. Not all settings have System Templates (for example, there are no System Templates for Alias Lists or Load File Import). There is no default System Template of a given type).

For a template at the Organization level, the Load from Template dialog provides the choice of the following:

  • Organization Templates (current Organization only at the Org level) — As long as you have the appropriate permissions, you can see a list of Organization templates available based on the type of template for which you want to load settings. The list of templates is for your Organization only. (You cannot see templates owned by other Organizations.) The default Organization template is identified for you.
  • System Templates — If you are a System User in a System role with at least View permissions for the type of System Template, you can see and select from a list of the System-level Templates available to load. Not all settings have System Templates (for example, there are no System Templates for Alias Lists or Load File Import). There is no default System Template of a given type.

For a System-level Template at the System Settings level, the Load from Template dialog is available based on your permissions and provides the choice of the following:

  • Organization Templates (Organizations to which you have membership) — Lists the Organization templates available based on the type of template for which you want to load settings.
  • System Templates — If you are a System User in a System role with Add/Edit permissions for the type of System Template, you can see and select from a list of other System-level Templates available to load. Not all settings have System Templates (for example, there are no System Templates for Alias Lists or Load File Import). You can load from or save to another existing System Template.

Load from Template Options

Loads your settings from the template you select from the list of available templates (for a specific type of setting, such as Index Settings or Analytic Settings).

  • OK — Loads settings from the selected template.
  • Cancel — Cancels the Load from Template operation.
