Requires Project - Password Cracking - View, Add/Edit Permissions
When you are managing either the Known Passwords list of the Frequently Used Passwords list, you can choose to add passwords to the list using one of the following methods:
- Load passwords from a local text file.
- Supply the passwords manually (by typing the passwords in the popup or copying and pasting passwords into the popup).
A Password count: <value> enables you to track the number of added passwords. Initially this count is 0.
Once you add passwords using one of these methods, the count of added passwords changes to the appropriate value (for example, Password count: 17
). At this point, you can no longer add passwords using the other method unless you back out the changes (either remove the file or clear the manually added passwords).
Load Passwords from a Local Text File
You can upload a local text file of passwords and then manage the uploaded file using the appropriate option, as follows:
-
Load from Local File... — Launches a popup that enables you to navigate to a text file on your local computer or network location and upload that text file. Once the file is uploaded, you will see the name of the text file in the center of the Add Passwords screen (for example,
File: myprojpasswords.txt
). You will not see the individual passwords from the uploaded file, but the count is reported, and you can see the passwords when you return to the Known Passwords or Frequently Used Passwords list. In the appropriate list, the Source column will indicate passwords that were added from the file (you see the name of the file).
-
Remove File — Removes the local file of passwords that you uploaded. You can then load from another file, or manually enter passwords instead.
Supply the Passwords Manually
You can add passwords by typing one password per line, or by copying and pasting multiple passwords (which adds each password on a separate line). Once the list is populated with one or more passwords, you can manage the added passwords list using the following options:
-
— Deletes a selected password line from the list.
-
Clear All — Deletes all added password lines from the list. Once the list is empty, you can then add more passwords manually or load them from a local file.
A scroll bar enables you to navigate through a list of manually added passwords. There is no limit to the number of passwords you can add manually.
OK or Cancel Options
When you are done adding passwords, use one of the following options to save or cancel your changes:
- OK – Saves your Add Password changes. An information popup indicates how many unique passwords were added and how many duplicates were skipped (for example,
17 unique passwords were added. 2 duplicates were skipped.
Click Close to close this popup and return to the Known Passwords list or Frequently Used Passwords list. Your added passwords will then appear on the appropriate list and the Source column will help you identify whether a password was added from a file (you see the name of the file), or entered manually (you see Manual). - Cancel – Discards your Add Password changes.
