Requires Project - Password Cracking - View, Add/Edit Permissions

For all reprocessing, the software will perform its own password cracking and store a list of passwords that it was able to find and use on encrypted documents in the Project. This accumulation of Found Passwords occurs for all reprocessing, even if you do not explicitly specify other password criteria. This popup enables you to view the list of working passwords and optionally download the Found Passwords list to a local file.

Note the following about Found Passwords:

  • Found passwords are stored by the software. The storing of passwords is limited to single-byte characters (that is, there is no support for multi-byte characters such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters).
  • The Found password for a given document will appear in the password field for the document in the Export load file (assuming the password field is included in the list of Export Fields). The Organization Administrator can also view the password used to open, parse, and render the document in the Metadata panel of the Document Viewer. (Viewing of the password is restricted to users in the Organization Administrator role by default.)

Found Passwords with Filter Box Option

The Found Passwords list provides a list of the passwords found by the software as part of reprocessing. This list supports filtering using a Filter text box.

  • Password — Identifies a password found by the software. The passwords are listed in alphabetical order (ascending). Note that leading and trailing spaces in a password are retained.
  • Filter text box Filter You can use the Filter text box under the Password column to filter the list of Found Passwords. (The icon indicates that filtering is available.) Using the Filter box enables you to pinpoint the Found Passwords you want to match based on a Filter term search containing one or more characters you enter. You can explicitly apply a filter by typing one or more characters in the text box and clicking Enter (the return key). What you specify is not case-sensitive. If you type one or more characters in the text box, the software will automatically apply the filter for you, and the text box changes to a yellow background color. For any applied filter, you can then clear the filter by removing the text in the box and clicking Enter, by removing the text from the box, or by clicking the that appears at the far right of the Filter box. Clearing a filter restores the list to its original state. (Note that any column with a Filter text box cannot be moved.)

Paging Area, Download, and Close Options

In the paging area, which allows you to select pages of the Found Passwords, you can also select the following:

  • (requires Document Reports permissions) – Enables you to download the Found Passwords list to a local file (the FoundPasswords.csv file with a single column, Password). If you have not filtered the list of Found Passwords, the download will include the entire list. If you have filtered the list of Found Passwords, the download will include the filtered list.

Below the paging area, you can then select the following:

  • Close – Closes the popup and returns you to the main Password Cracking window.
