Requires System-level Services - Add/Edit permissions to create or edit a Service.

System Users in a role with the appropriate System-level permissions (by default, a System Administrator role or System Manager role) can add a Service or edit the description of an existing Service. For information about System-level permissions, see View and Manage System Role-Based Permissions.

Service Name and Description

Both of the following fields apply when you create a Service, but only the Description field can be changed when you edit a Service:

• Name The unique name of an item. For many items, the name can have up to 100 characters. Some items, such as a Connector name, can have up to 255 characters. An Excluded Content Block name is limited to 32 characters. (required for a new Service) — For creation of a Service, you must assign a descriptive name (up to 100 characters) that will be used to represent the Service. The name must be unique across the system and is subject to validation upon creation. The name can include alphanumeric characters, spaces between characters in the name (leading and trailing spaces are ignored), and some supported characters (such as a hyphen, underscore, and apostrophe). During validation, the software will also allow characters from foreign languages (for example, Korean characters). However, the following characters are not supported for Service names and will generate an error message indicating that your entry contains invalid characters:

Note: The Name is displayed by grayed out and unavailable to change when editing a Service.

• Description Provides a helpful description of an item. A description can have up to 255 characters. — For creation of a Service, you can optionally specify a helpful description of the Service. For edit of an existing Service, you can change the Service description.

OK or Cancel the Service Creation or Edit

• OK — Click this button to create the Service or commit the changes to the Service.
• Cancel — Click this button if you want to cancel the creation or edit operation instead.
