Use Custom Fields in the Project

Home > selected Project > menu or right-click > Settings > Custom Fields
Project > Settings drop-down > Project Settings > Custom Fields

Requires Project - Custom Fields - View (to view the Custom Fields), Add/Edit (to add a Custom Field)

Users with the appropriate permissions can use the Custom Fields that are in effect in your Project. You may want to add and use Custom Fields when working with Load Files, such as DAT Load Files.

As with other types of Project settings, you can save Custom Fields to a template or create templates for use in a new Project.

Note: When working Export Fields, keep in mind that no Custom metadata field mapping is permitted at the Organization template level. Use a Project Export Fields template to define all of the Custom field mapping for Export.

When you add a Custom Field with a given name, the software automatically adds the prefix drcustom-.

When working with Project Export Field templates, any configured Custom Fields will appear at the bottom of the list and will be available for mapping. Here, the prefix drcustom- is used for the Custom Field mapping (for example, if you add a field called mycustom, then the mapping is shown as drcustom-mycustom, and that is what appears in the Exported Load File, such as a CSV).

Custom Fields Summary

Note: You must search for a Custom Field using single quotes and lowercase using the 'drcustom-<custom_field_name>' format. This format requires you to place the search within single quotes and specify the Custom Field name in lowercase, since the software normalizes a Custom Field name to lowercase.

New Custom Field Option

To add a new Custom Field, use the top-level New Custom Field option.

Note: You cannot edit or delete a Custom Field that has been added.

Save to Template Option

If you have the appropriate permissions, you can save your Custom Fields to an Organization template. You cannot perform a Load from Template operation from a template to your existing Project Custom Fields, but you can use a Custom Fields template at Project creation.

To save Custom Fields, click the ellipses to the right of Custom Fields in the tree of Project Settings, as follows:

  • Save to Template - If you have Add/Edit permissions to Custom Fields templates in the Organization, you can use the Save to Template option to save your current fields to a selected Organization template. You can either select an existing Organization template (including the Default Custom Fields template), or you can select the top-level (New Template,) which launches the New Template dialog.
