Requires Organization - Export Databases- View, Add/Edit Permissions

Users with the appropriate permissions (for example, an Organization Administrator) can set up and manage one or more MS SQL databases to support the export of load file information from Export Streams in the Project. After you define the Export database connections, you then use the Export Settings to select one active database connection for the Project. At Export, you then select the option option for Export to a database and initially specify a database table name, and the Digital Reef software will use the schema to create the table.

See How to Export to a Database for more information about all configuration steps required to export to an MS SQL database.

From the Export Databases section of the Organization management view, you can do one of the following:

  • View a list of Export Databases.
  • Add a new Export Database, which creates an undefined database and allows you to provide the information for that new database.
  • Edit a selected Export Database, which displays attributes and enables you to change some attributes.
  • Delete an Export Database that is not the active database for any Project in the Organization.

An export database enables export of load file information in a Project.

The officially supported database as of 4.3.8 is MS SQL.

Although you can make several databases available to an Organization, the Project can have only one active database.

Export Database Information

In the Export Database Summary, the following columns provide information about the configured Export Databases for the Organization:

  • Name —The unique name used to identify this database connection within the Organization. This is the name that appears in the list of available databases for a Project (using the Export Settings).
  • Description (optional) —A description for the database entry, if one has been configured.
  • IP (required) — Specify the IP address or fully qualified (or DNS-resolvable) hostname of the target database.
  • Port (optional) — The port for the MS SQL database entry (typically, 1433):
  • Database Name —The actual database name.

The Export Database Summary provides paging options and a (Refresh) option.

New and Selected Export Database Options

To add a new Export Database, use the top-level New Database option.

For a selected Database, right-click the entry or click the ellipses at the far right to see a menu with the following options, as long as you have permissions to perform those actions (actions that are not permitted will be grayed out):

  • Edit – Enables you to edit a selected Database entry. You see the current values for the database (with the exception of the password, which is represented by asterisks). Fields that you can edit are active; fields unavailable for edit are grayed out.
  • Delete – Deletes a Database entry if it is eligible for deletion. You can delete an Export database entry as long as it is not the active database for any Project in the Organization. For example, you can delete the entry for a newly defined Export database that has not yet been selected as the active database for any Project. In this case, you can click Delete to delete the database entry, and a popup will ask you to confirm the deletion.
  • If the selected database is the active database for any Project in the Organization, clicking Delete will generate an error.

Page Controls

For multi-page lists, you can select a page to display. By default, a given page will display 100 items.

The paging area shows a range and enables you to enter the page number in the box or use the appropriate arrows to navigate.

– You can perform an immediate refresh by clicking the Refresh button, , on the Page Control bar.

Usage Notes

  • Exporting to a database does not preclude the export of files and other load files to an export location; it is an additional type of load file export.
  • If a database connection fails during Export, the entire Export will fail. The Export will remain in a Staged state, and when the error has been resolved, you can click the Export button to perform the Export.
  • Digital Reef uses a single-table schema for exporting to MS SQL.
