Requires the appropriate Setting Add/Edit Permission based on the Save to Template or Load from Template action

Home > Settings drop-down >System Settings > Templates > selected Template > Save to Template

Requires System User in a System-level Role and Permissions

Users in a role with permissions can use the Save to Template option to save a selected template to a new or existing template. System Users with the appropriate permissions can save to a new or existing Organization template or System template.

Many settings support saving to an Organization-level template, but two settings, Load File Import and Export Fields, also support saving to a Project-level template.

If you create a new template using the New Template option, that template is selected for you after you create it.

This is useful if you have spent time defining settings and want to put them into effect for standard use in the Project (or make them available in the Organization).

As of 5.2.5.x, this operation, when performed for Index Settings or Billing Reports, will require a match in parsing library versions, and you will see an error, The template operation cannot be performed due to a mismatch in parsing library versions between the project and the selected template if you try to save information to a template that does not match the parsing library version of your current Settings or template. For example, you can only save V1 Project Index Settings into existing V1 template information or save V2 Project Settings into V2 template information. All new templates will be V2. If you try to save V1 settings to a new template, a new template will be created, but it will be a V2 template. Therefore, when you click OK for the Save to Template operation, you will see the mismatch error to indicate that the operation could not be performed as you had intended. You can then close the error popup and close or cancel the Save to Template operation.

Selecting a Template

At the Project level, the Save to Template dialog provides your choice of the following:

  • Project Templates — For Export Fields or Load File Import, lists any Project-level templates that are available for the Save to Template operation. You can also create a new Project-level template.
  • Organization Templates (current Organization only) — Lists the Organization templates available based on the type of template to which you want to save settings. You can also create a new Organization-level template. The list of templates is for your Organization only. (You cannot see templates owned by other Organizations.) The default template is identified for you.

At the Organization level, the Save to Template dialog provides your choice of the following:

  • Organization Templates (current Organization only) — Lists the Organization templates available based on the type of template to which you want to save settings. The list of templates is for your Organization only. (You cannot see templates owned by other Organizations.) You can also create a new Organization-level template. The default template is identified for you.

At the System Settings tab level, the Save to Template dialog provides you choice of the following:

  • Organization Templates — Lists the Organization templates available based on the type of template to which you want to save settings and the Organizations to which you have membership. You can also create a new Organization template.
  • System TemplatesIf you are a System User in a System role with the appropriate permissions for the type of System Template, you can see and select from a list of the System-level Templates available for the Save to Template operation. You can also create a new System template. Not all settings have System Templates (for example, there are no System Templates for Alias Lists or Load File Import). There is no default System Template of a given type.

Save to Template Options
