Manage Excluded Content in the Project

Home > selected Project > menu or right-click > Settings > Excluded Content
Project > Settings drop-down > Project Settings > Excluded Content

Requires Project - Excluded Content - View Permissions to view these settings, Add/Edit Permissions to add, edit, or duplicate an Excluded Content Block, and Delete Permissions to delete an Excluded Content Block

Users in a role with permissions can add one or more Excluded Content Blocks to the current Project settings in order to have blocks of content automatically removed from the content index at import or reprocessing. (The removal of the content block from the index will take effect at the next import or reprocessing operation.)

Once the block of content is removed from the index, a content search will not find that block of content. Note that you will still be able to see the block of content in the Text tab as well as HTML tab of the Document Viewer (and it will appear in the full text upon Export).

Users with permissions can use the Excluded Content screen to do the following:

  • Review the list of Excluded Content Blocks defined in the default template or a loaded template.
  • Create a new Excluded Content Block, which launches the New Content Block dialog.
  • Edit an Excluded Content item, which launches the Edit Excluded Content Block dialog.
  • Create a duplicate of an Excluded Content Block.
  • Save your list of Excluded Content items to a template using the Templates > Save to Template option, which enables you to select a target template for the settings, or you can select New Template, which launches the New Template dialog.
  • Load settings from a template you select using the Templates > Load from option. The loaded settings then appear in the Project Excluded Content items list.
  • Delete a selected Excluded Content item.

Excluded Content Summary

The Excluded Content summary shows information about each Excluded Content Block, as follows:

  • Created By – The login name of the user who created the Excluded Content Block.

New and Selected Excluded Content Options

To add a new block of content that you want to exclude use the top-level New Content Block option.

For a selected Excluded Content Block, right-click the Block or click the ellipses at the far right to see a menu with the following options, as long as you have permissions to perform those actions (actions that are not permitted will be grayed out):

  • Edit – Enables you to edit a selected Excluded Content Block.
  • Duplicate – Enables you to duplicate a selected Excluded Content Block.
  • Delete – Deletes a selected Excluded Content Block upon confirmation.

Excluded Content: Save to and Load from Template Options

If you have the appropriate permissions, you can save your Excluded Content Block settings to a template or load the settings from a template. To do this, click the ellipses to the right of Excluded Content in the tree of eDiscovery Project Settings, as follows:

Note: Save to and Load from operations for this setting observe an "append" behavior. For example, for a Load from operation, your current settings are preserved and only new, unique items from the source template/settings are added. Items with any name collisions are not added. Note that other settings, such as Index settings and Analytic settings, observe an "overwrite" behavior instead.

  • Save to Template - If you have Add/Edit permissions to Excluded Content templates in the Organization, you can use the Save to Template option to save your current Excluded Content blocks to a selected Organization template. You can either select an existing Organization template (including the Default Patterns template), or you can select the top-level (New Template,) which launches the New Template dialog.
  • Load from Template - If you have Add/Edit permissions to Excluded Content in the Project, you can use the Load from Template option to load settings from a selected template (from a list of available Organization templates). The loaded settings then appear and are saved automatically. Note that loading from a System template requires System-level View permission for a given Setting. (This means you must be a System User in a role with at least View permission to see a list of System templates for a particular type of template.)
