View and Manage Services

Home > Settings drop-down >System Settings > Provisioning > Services
Project > Settings drop-down > System Settings > Provisioning > Services

Requires System-level Services - View permissions to view the information, Add/Edit permissions to edit/save changes, and Delete permissions to delete a Service. Also requires Realm Nodes - View permissions to list the Realm Nodes.

System Users in a role with the appropriate System-level permissions can view and manage Services. A Service is an allocation of analytic resources to a data processing activity. A default Service, the Digital Reef Default Service, supports processing in the Realm for configured Organizations and Projects. As a System User with Services - Add/Edit permissions, you can define your own Services if you want to scale your Realm Node resources to offer different levels of processing performance for data processing activities. To offer a higher Service level for an activity, you allocate a greater number of analytic resources based on your available Realm Nodes (Analytic Nodes) and their Node type (for example, Standard, Express, or OCR).

By default, System Users in any System-level role can view the Services Summary information. By default, a System Administrator and System Manager have permissions to add and edit a Service, but only a System Administrator has permissions by default to delete a Service. For information about System-level permissions, see View and Manage System Role-Based Permissions.

From the Services screen, System Users with the appropriate permissions can do the following:

  • View information for the configured Services (with View permissions).
  • Add a Service (with Add/Edit permissions).
  • Edit the Service (with Add/Edit permissions).
  • Delete a Service (with Delete permissions, by default, for the System Administrator role only).

Services Summary List Columns

The columns in the summary display information about the various Services.

  • Name – The name assigned to the Service.  This is the default sort column (ascending). The Digital Reef Default Service is called Digital Reef Entire Realm.
  • Description – A helpful description of the Service. The default description for the Digital Reef Default Service is Digital Reef Auto Generated Service.

Note: To control the list of displayed columns, right-click any column title to display the pop-up menu with checkboxes for the columns. The current sort column will have an up arrow after the column name to indicate the sort ascending order.

Services Summary Button and Selected Service Options

A button at the top of the summary enables you to create a Service, as follows:

  • New Service – Enables a System User with the appropriate permissions to add a Service.

For a selected Service entry, you can right-click the entry or click the ellipses at the far right to see a menu with the following context menu options, as long as you have permissions to perform those actions (actions that are not permitted will be grayed out).

  • Edit – Enables a System User with Add/Edit permissions for Services to view the information or edit the Service description for a Service.
  • Delete – Enables a System User with appropriate Delete permissions (by default, the System Administrator role is required) to request permanent deletion of a manually created Service that is not in use by one or more Projects. In this case, the button is enabled and when you select it, a confirmation popup asks you to confirm the deletion of the Service, since the Delete action cannot be undone if you proceed (for example, Delete "servicep1"? This action cannot be undone). Click Delete Service if you want to proceed with the deletion, or click Cancel to cancel the operation. The following summarizes when this button is grayed out and unavailable:
    • You cannot delete the Digital Reef Default Service (Digital Reef Entire Realm). The button is grayed out when you select the default Service, and hovering over the button will display the tooltip The Digital Reef Default Service cannot be deleted.
    • You cannot delete a Service that is in use by one or more Projects (which will be displayed in the Organizations & Projects section). This button is grayed out when you select an in-use Service, and hovering over the button will display the tooltip This service is in use and cannot be deleted. If necessary, you can change the Service for a Project to use another Service such as the default Service (for example, using Change Service from the Projects screen).

Realm Node Selections for a Service with Save and Discard Options

When you select a Service from the Summary, the top right side of the screen displays the Realm Nodes and enables you to select which ones can be used by the Service.

By default, a Service includes all Realm Nodes in a Multi-node configuration (that is, the Analytic Nodes), or the Full Node (Service Node) that has a Standard Node type and has all system components. In a Multi-node configuration, you can remove nodes from a Service (for example, to add them to another Service), but in general, do not leave any nodes without a Service. In a Full Node configuration, you will see only the one node. If you select one or more but not all Realm Nodes in the list, the top checkbox (for selecting all Analytic Nodes) changes to to indicate that one or more items have been selected, but not all items.

  • for a named Realm Node – Indicates that this Realm Node is associated with the Service.
  • for a named Realm Node – Indicates that this Realm Node is not associated with the Service.
  • Realm Node Name – The name assigned to a Realm Node. This is the default sort column (ascending).
  • Realm Node Type – Indicates the Node type for the Realm Node (Standard, Express, or OCR).
  • Save – Saves the Realm Node selection changes for the Service. You must have at least one Realm Node selected for this button to be enabled. The button will be grayed out if no Realm Nodes have been selected.
  • Discard Changes – Discards the Realm Node selection changes for the Service.

Organizations & Projects for a Service

When you select a Service from the Summary, the bottom right displays the following information:

  • Organization – The name assigned to an Organization whose Projects are associated with the Service.

  • Project — The name of a Project using the Service, followed by a hyphen and the description for the Service, if one has been configured.
